Select a leader, either past or present, you would like to emulate, and highlight the characteristics that make him/her an effective leader. Based on the information you have learned regarding leading sustainable change, choose three characteristics that enable the leader you selected to successfully implement effective, sustainable change. The leader that I would like to emulate is Nelson Mandela. He was an effective leader who successfully implemented effective, sustainable change in South Africa. Mandela was a visionary leader who had a clear vision for a better future for South Africa. He was also a pragmatic leader who was willing to compromise to achieve his goals.
Here are three characteristics that enabled Mandela to successfully implement effective, sustainable change:
- He was a visionary leader. Mandela had a clear vision for a democratic and multiracial South Africa. He was able to articulate his vision in a way that inspired others to follow him.
- He was a pragmatic leader. Mandela was willing to compromise to achieve his goals. He knew that it would be impossible to achieve his vision without the support of the white minority in South Africa. He was able to build relationships with white leaders and convince them that his vision was in their best interests.
