Choose one of two questions; Question One: During the war for independence, Father Miguel Hidalgo and other Mexicans wanted freedom from Spain. But why is it significant that a priest started the rebellion, and why is it significant that a priest continued the rebellion? Proceed carefully and consider what you will say before composing your response. The answer to this question is quite simple, but you must think long and hard to find the appropriate explanation. Cite each author at least once and cite at least image. OR Question Two: Consider how art and sculpture show how Mexicans, especially Mexican men, tried to recover their masculinity through economic and social reform. Cite each author and refer to the Manuel Vilar’s sculpture when composing the answer. (HINT: why would Vilar’s sculpture, though executed nearly forty years after the fight for independence, be representative of the way some Mexicans saw themselves?)?
