Chinese Political Development

Order Description Define "political development", and describe the challenges that confronted the Chinese people and those who aspired to lead them in accomplishing the tasks of "political development" from the late 19th centuries through the May 4th Movement in 1919. In your view, did reformers (leaders of the Tongzhi Restoration and the 1898 Reform Movement) or revolutionaries (Sun Yat-sen) offer the better solution to these challenges? In your response, be sure to make reference to readings and lectures on the notion of "political development" as well as to significant events in Chinese history during the period in question.
