Memorandum (memos) are a common workplace writing format. For your assignment paper, you will first
prepare an outline of the issues you will present in a memo and then you will write an analytical style memo
with statements supported by research (primarily from our course materials in this scenario) - not an opinion
piece. This assignment is based on the following scenario:
Imagine you are the Communications Director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management. Your
division director wants to ensure that the agency utilizes optimal communication methods. She has asked you
to conduct research and write her a memo analyzing public sector communication and crisis communication. In
your analysis include at least three lessons learned and/or key aspects regarding public sector communication
from recent emergency situations (particularly Hurricane Katrina) AND highlight why communication is critical
to public sector functioning.
