(Part I) Identify an organization in the Chicago area (i.e., city or suburbs) that is working to improve a serious community issue (e.g., homelessness, violence) – (Part II) Interview an active member of this organization. IMPORTANT NOTES: (1) Interviewee cannot be someone currently affiliated with UIC. (2) Interviews must be conducted face-to-face or via Face-time/Skype (or similar visual based interface). (3). Interviewee cannot be someone you or a family member already knows. (4). Interview is not used for course 385. Construct (at least) ten questions to better understand the interviewee’s experience with this community organization. You determine what questions to ask. You should use the paper rubric to help guide how you construct your questions. PAGE 1 (20 pts): (1/2 pg.) Give a brief description of the organization and then (1/2 pg.) give a brief description of the issue(s) you will highlight in this paper. PAGE 2 (20 pts): Discuss the issue(s) across the two most relevant levels-of-analysis (1/2 pg. each). PAGE 3 (20 pts): Discuss how two of the following concepts from community psychology relate to what this organization is doing OR failing to do (1/2 pg. each): (1) Preventing a problem before it starts (2) Empowering individuals in the community (3) Getting community members to participate and contribute PAGE 4 (20 pts): (1/2 pg.) Provide a description of the person you interviewed (including their role at the organization) and (1/2 pg.) summarize what you learned from the interview as it relates to this course. PAGE 5 (20 pts): Discuss how the interviewee's responses related to two additional concepts from community psychology (1/2 pg. each). -3 pts: Each significant spelling/grammatical error. -5 pts: Each instance of failing to follow format requirements (e.g., page limit) or assignment instructions.
