Company's dependancy on communication technology

Different companies use communication technology in very different ways. While many companies continue to rely heavily on email for communication, in other companies, instant messaging programs are the norm. In some companies texting during a meeting would be seen as high offensive behavior; however, in recent years, texting is the primary way that employees communicate with each other.

For this discussion prompt, consider one or more of the following questions: Is it possible for companies to be too dependent on communication technology? How might texting or instant messaging aid in the KISS mantra (i.e. concise writing)? Or conversely, how might texting or instant messaging work against empathetic writing (an equally important goal of business writing)? How might we weigh the costs and benefits of each type of communication?
