Objective: As one of the modes of expository writin" rel="nofollow">ing, the comparison and contrast essay helps students make connections between texts, ideas or issues, though critical reflection on the similarities and differences of these items. From this, students have the opportunity to gain" rel="nofollow">in a deeper understandin" rel="nofollow">ing of the texts, ideas or issues that are bein" rel="nofollow">ing compared and contrasted, so they can move beyond mere desсrіption or summary and generate a more in" rel="nofollow">interestin" rel="nofollow">ing analysis. Directions: • Write an essay on one of the prompts below. • After you have pre-written, map out your ideas (recreate one of the outlin" rel="nofollow">ines provided on BB), in" rel="nofollow">in a clear and well-organized way that would make sense to a reader. • When draftin" rel="nofollow">ing the essay, your poin" rel="nofollow">ints should be well supported with details or examples that are fully developed. • Moreover, correct sentence structure and grammar are important. Keep in" rel="nofollow">in min" rel="nofollow">ind that a good essay should have: o Several paragraphs o Good organization (in" rel="nofollow">includin" rel="nofollow">ing an in" rel="nofollow">introduction, body and conclusion) o Opin" rel="nofollow">inions well supported with details or examples o A title Basic Requirements: • Essay MUST follow either the subject-by subject outlin" rel="nofollow">ine, or the poin" rel="nofollow">int-by-poin" rel="nofollow">int. • Essay MUST show evidence of pre-writin" rel="nofollow">ing and outlin" rel="nofollow">inin" rel="nofollow">ing. • Essay MUST be written in" rel="nofollow">in the first and third person only. • Essay MUST have a title. • Essay MUST be typed. • Essay MUST follow the proper MLA formattin" rel="nofollow">ing. • Essay MUST be stapled.
