Think about a topic in literacy area for early childhood (it can be any topic). Select THREE of
the approaches presented in the readings (ethnography, phenomenology, etc.) and discuss how you would
conduct your study within each of the three approaches you select. Remember, we’re going through THREE
different approaches, so your research question can be different for each one as long as your original TOPIC
remains the same. For example, if your topic was service-learning, you could look at how students in a service learning project interact and develop roles (ethnography), discuss the experience and meaning students make
with the content (phenomenology), or look into a specific service-learning experience (case study). For each
approach you select, you should discuss the following:
1) Define the approach and the type of questions for which it is best suited.
2) What would be an example of a question on your topic based on this approach?
3) What would your study look like? (i.e., what type of data would you collect?)
4) What would you look for in your analysis? What would you focus on
