Unit III Lesson Review
Fellow Students,

In Unit Lesson III, we discussed the complications and issues associated with agencies that are not managed properly and/or disorganized. We also discussed the application of conflict resolution and how to implement it within the law enforcement agencies.

One thing to consider and review is the aspects of consent decree within a police agency. One of the agencies under the consent decree agreement is the Los Angeles Police Department. This was based upon the discovery of the Rampart Area Corruption Incident by LAPD and the United States Department of Justice with regards to a civil law suit identifying the practice of excessive force, unreasonable search and seizures, and false arrests. This is an example of what can happen when a police agency is not managed properly and disorganized.

As we roll into Unit Lesson IV, we are going to discuss the socialization within a criminal justice agency, the importance of proper communication, and leadership characteristics that motivate employees.

How Criminal Trials Move / Parts 1-4
Fellow Students,

As we continue to progress in this class, we are now in the discussion of how the court system operates and functions. If you have not done so in the past, I would encourage you to attend a criminal court proceeding in your local jurisdiction. As you know, most of these cases are open to the public to view and watch.

In addition, I would like for you to watch a four (4) part series provided below. This is an excellent introduction into how criminal cases move through Federal District Courts. The program uses a fictitious narcotics investigation and follows it through all states of a federal criminal prosecution. The videos are a bit dated, but still relevant in today's court system.
