Contemporary Feminism

Go to http://www.feminist.org/. Scroll down until you see Feminist Daily Newswire on the let side of screen. Ignore ads and sign-ups. Take a look at the various buttons on the left side of the screen and answer the following questions.

  1. Judging from the kinds of issues represented on this site, do you think the Feminist Majority Foundation is closer to liberal feminism or radical feminism? Why?
  2. Click on the tab across the top that says “Get Involved" Which initiatives do you support and which ones do you oppose? Why?
  3. What would a socialist feminist or an intersectionality theorist think about the site’s advocacy of these issues?
  4. How many of the initiatives listed here are international or global in scope?

In the chapter on Contemporary Feminist Theory (Ch. 12) there is a section titled "Intersectionality Theory".

  1. Discuss the major figures and ideas associated with Intersectionality Theory. Make sure to include Patricia Hill Collins, 6. Crenshaw, 7. Sojourner Truth. (I put this part as 3 questions)
    Pay particular attend to Collins both in the Biographical Sketch and the text of the section as well as the power point notes.
  2. What is the connection to Women in Early Sociology pps. 204-205 in text.
  3. Is there a connection between Feminist Theory and Queer Theory (Chapter 18 pps. 665-671? Briefly explain why or why not.
