For example, new technologies, data analytics and social networks are havin" rel="nofollow">ing a huge impact on how people communicate, collaborate and work. Critically discuss this in" rel="nofollow">in the context of organisational development / organisational change, given that organisations overall have difficulty in" rel="nofollow">in implementin" rel="nofollow">ing change. Main" rel="nofollow">in themes covered in" rel="nofollow">in this essay: Theme 2: The Future of Work Theme 3: Organisational development / organisational change The assignment should be an essay and the work should be properly referenced. Essay Structure This part of your essay in" rel="nofollow">introduces how changeable the work environment is, and will contin" rel="nofollow">inue to become. Start broadly - explain" rel="nofollow">in the changes takin" rel="nofollow">ing place in" rel="nofollow">in the workplace (most specifically, technological changes in" rel="nofollow">involvin" rel="nofollow">ing data analytics, big data, social networkin" rel="nofollow">ing, artificial Intelligence, Robotics). These themes have been covered in" rel="nofollow">in the lectures, so revisit lecture slides for the lin" rel="nofollow">inks to relevant discussion poin" rel="nofollow">ints. Also see the assessment 2 readin" rel="nofollow">ing folder on blackboard. Explain" rel="nofollow">in in" rel="nofollow">in more detail some of the issues. The work place, jobs, technology, societal impacts etc. are all changin" rel="nofollow">ing, but how well do organisations actually embrace (or drive) change? Start to pick out specific examples and focus in" rel="nofollow">in on a few of these. Such as, which jobs / professions / in" rel="nofollow">industries are most at risk? What implications does this have for society (such as the millennial generation or the green, orange and blue worlds)? Relate the particular issues you choose to discuss, to the organisational change literature and theory. Analyse why change is difficult to implement – why is this the case? Give examples of approaches which have had high failure rates and discuss why this occurred. Fin" rel="nofollow">inally, focus on the projected impact all this change will have on the future of work and society. An example extract: The assignment question cites research from the PWc report ‘The future of work: A journey to 2022’, whereby over half of those surveyed, felt that technological breakthroughs will transform the way people work over the next 5 – 10 years. A contemporary example of this is the Japanese Fukoku Mutual Life Insurance company, who have recently announced that they will be makin" rel="nofollow">ing 34 employees redundant and replacin" rel="nofollow">ing them with artificial in" rel="nofollow">intelligence (McCurry, 2017). The AI system, bein" rel="nofollow">ing implemented in" rel="nofollow">in January 2017, will reportedly save the firm about 140m yen (£1m) a year and in" rel="nofollow">increase productivity by 30% (McCurry, 2017). Implementin" rel="nofollow">ing a new system of robotics, will in" rel="nofollow">involve dramatic change. Grant (2016) supports that change in" rel="nofollow">in organisations is difficult and there are many barriers to successfully implementin" rel="nofollow">ing change. The staff who remain" rel="nofollow">in within" rel="nofollow">in the Fukoku Mutual Life Insurance company, i.e. the social structure, may resist these changes, especially as it in" rel="nofollow">involves staff redundancies, which often leads to low morale in" rel="nofollow">in the workplace (Grant, 2016). The change in" rel="nofollow">in this organisation therefore will not be easy, with many barriers to overcome, thus will in" rel="nofollow">involve a large amount of risk.
