Course: Race, Gender, Inequality, & Law Order Description The movie Crash, tells the in" rel="nofollow">interlockin" rel="nofollow">ing stories of Blacks, Whites, Latin" rel="nofollow">inos, Asians and Persians all livin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">in Los Angeles. There are cops and crimin" rel="nofollow">inals, powerful or powerless, kin" rel="nofollow">ind and cruel, all defin" rel="nofollow">ined by their racism. Some are perpetrators of bigotry, others victims of it. All characters in" rel="nofollow">in the movie are emotionally or physically impacted by impulsive, thoughtless, in" rel="nofollow">in-your-face in" rel="nofollow">interchanges. Some characters may learn from their actions and appear redeemed by the end of the movie, although no attempt is made by the filmmaker to have a politically correct endin" rel="nofollow">ing. Irony runs throughout the film in" rel="nofollow">in unexpected ways, and most of the characters main" rel="nofollow">intain" rel="nofollow">in negative assumptions, based on stereotypes, even of those they care for. No character is untouched, as they contin" rel="nofollow">inue to crash in" rel="nofollow">into each other, literally or figuratively. Compare and contrast any two of the characters in" rel="nofollow">in the movie Crash (only pick two to write about!). In thin" rel="nofollow">inkin" rel="nofollow">ing about the in" rel="nofollow">intersection of multiple identities, explain" rel="nofollow">in the ways in" rel="nofollow">in which their experiences of privilege and oppression were similar and the ways they differed. In other words, describe the ways in" rel="nofollow">in which the characters experienced AND perpetuated oppression (prejudice, discrimin" rel="nofollow">ination, and/or in" rel="nofollow">internalized subordin" rel="nofollow">ination.) Be sure to identify the categories of privilege and oppression each character experienced in" rel="nofollow">in your analysis and provide examples from the movie to highlight your poin" rel="nofollow">ints. Film Response should: (1) demonstrates that students have done the readin" rel="nofollow">ings, understood them and are able to apply the materials to the real world. (2) be written in" rel="nofollow">in a standard 12-poin" rel="nofollow">int font (double spaced, standard 1-in" rel="nofollow">inch margin" rel="nofollow">ins), (3) at a length of 3-5 pages (4) demonstrate the student?s ability to clearly express their ideas through written expression.
