The purpose of this assignment is to review and reflect on numerous concepts discussed in recent
classes.
What Guidelines do I need to follow?
Part 1:
In this part, you are arguing which documentary mode(s) is/are present in a non-fiction film excerpt
screened for you in class.
You are writing a 1-paragraph response, maximum word count: 300 words, identifying and explaining
which documentary mode(s) the film excerpt uses.
Part 2:
After you have identified and explained the documentary mode(s) used in the doc excerpt in Part 1, the
focus of Part 2 is your discussion of whether the film appears to have an informative, persuasive, social
conscious and/or propagandistic voice.
You are answering the same question as you did for the Investigative Assessment. This time, you have to
make the decision yourself and argue it by yourself. Your decision and argument are based only on the
excerpt screened in class. You do not need to watch the documentary in its entirety. All explanations
should be relating to the excerpt only.
