Previously in this course, the following concepts have been covered:
Educating the public about how to prevent crime and their own victimization
Routine activity theory
Situational crime prevention
Identifying and reporting suspicious activity and people
Using the above-listed concepts, that will help residents prevent crime in their own lives and their neighborhood.
Create a 2 page Internal Communication Brief (see Resources below) to share with your precinct about area crime prevention. Choose four concepts from the above list to combine into a community policing effort to educate residents on ways they can prevent crime in their neighborhood such as locking doors, using outside lights, installing burglar alarms, reporting suspicious people or activities, seeking help for drug or alcohol addictions or mental illness.
Indicate how to communicate this information to residents such as using the department Facebook page, social media, the local news network, send out flyers or brochures, or have a community day then distribute information. Indicate the rationale for your chosen communication method(s). You may base this on an area in your own community.
