How did the agency involved communicate with the public and the media? What strategies did they employ? • How did the public/media respond to this communication? Was the communication effective or did it cause additional problems? • Could the agency have employed different strategies that might have been more effective? If so, what are they? • How did issues of race, ethnicity, and/or gender impact the incident and the communication that occurred? • Did the agency employ any conflict management or conflict resolution strategies at the individual or community level and how effective were they? • Did the agency set any precedent for future expectations? In other words, what do you think the public and the media can expect from this agency in the future? Are their expectations positive or negative?
III. Recommendations: If you were in a position to have developed a communication strategy for the agency involved in the incident or event you have assessed, what would you have done. What strategies would you have employed? How would you have communicated with the different interest groups involved (public, media, etc.). How would you develop a strategy that both addressed the agency and the public's needs and concerns over the current incident or event: and, lays the groundwork for future cooperation and partnership between the agency and the public.
