Write a five-page critical analysis of the article related to your chosen object; be sure to use endnotes (not counted towards the five pages), supplying the full reference for the article or book section under discussion and additional references to specific passages discussed in the course of your essay. For use of and formats for endnotes, see relevant section in Barnet, A Short Guide to Writing about Art. Your analysis should clearly identify what argument the author makes about the object and what evidence is presented in support of this argument. You should then evaluate the overall persuasiveness of the argument and consider whether any aspects of your own visual analysis of the object tend to support or conflict with the author’s argument. Class discussions of readings will give you the opportunity to build the skills required for this assignment. In addition, I will distribute a rubric that will also help to guide you in writing your essay. Please attach the rubric (not filled out) as the cover sheet for your essay.
