Critical Social Issues Paper

  1. What are some of the ways in which the historical construction of White and Black womanhood and the continuing intersection of race, class, gender, capitalism, state power (etc.) have rendered Black women and girls especially vulnerable to targeting, neglect and/or violence (state, sexual, and/or reproductive). In what ways have feminist and/or racial justice movements failed Black women in regards to state, sexual, and/or reproductive injustice? What are some examples of ways that Black women (through theory, research, activism) have fought back? Cite at least two readings and incorporate State Violence and Reproductive Justice in your answer.
  2. Identify at least one example of something happening at our current political moment (a current event, a policy, a bill being debated in Congress, a news story, etc.) relevant to reproductive violence. Cite at least one reading and incorporate Reproductive Right/ Choice in a brief analysis of the current event or policy.
