Cross to Bear

What were the political, legal, social, cultural and economic factors that made the “nightmare” scenario of Duke
v Edwards possible? To what degree did Duke’s success in politics serve as a continuation of older political
traditions (i.e. populism, states’rights, etc). To what degree was Duke’s success something totally new in
Louisiana politics and history? How so? How do you explain the phenomena of former Edwards supporters
voting for Duke in 1991? Finally, what lessons can be learned about Louisiana from this election, and do you
think Louisianians have or will learn them? Does Duke's last Senate bid (or his recent participation in the Nazi
protest at Charlottsville) tell us anything as to whether Louisiana learned these lessons?
