What are your thoughts on racial tensions in America right now? (between everyone)
I have been nervous about broaching the subject of anti-Blackness amongst Latinx peoples in this class, because as an Afro-Dominicana, when I bring this up—I am often met with denial. In this future, should this class incorporate readings on women and internalized racism or anti-Blackness within other ethnic minority groups? Please explain. How do you suggest that I do this? What songs? Movies? Episodes? Articles? Should be assigned?
Where do you stand on the Cardi B v. Azealia beef? They are both some of my problematic favs (favorites). Is Azealia right? Is Cardi B performing a rachet Blackness for profit, one that is not genuine? Why did Cardi delete her Instagram post? Is Cardi just a biracial Dominicana y Trinidadian woman who should have to choose between identities?
What would Gloria Anzaldúa say about beef between Black women and Latinas in a nation that disrespects both groups of women and women at the intersection of both groups (bi-racial or multi-racial women)?
