Definition Project

1. Select five to 10 terms from your professional field of study/major. For this project, avoid defin" rel="nofollow">inin" rel="nofollow">ing more than one mechanism. Title your assignment by stipulatin" rel="nofollow">ing the field of the terms: for example, “Terms Used in" rel="nofollow">in Electronics,” “Terms Used in" rel="nofollow">in Crimin" rel="nofollow">inal Justice,” “Terms Used in" rel="nofollow">in Medical Office Management,” and “Terms used in" rel="nofollow">in Weldin" rel="nofollow">ing.” 2. Develop a formal sentence defin" rel="nofollow">inition for each of your terms. Each term must state the term, the class, and the distin" rel="nofollow">inguishin" rel="nofollow">ing features/characteristics that differentiate your term from all others in" rel="nofollow">in its class. See page 209 for examples. Avoid the fallacies (refer to supplemental readin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">included in" rel="nofollow">in this packet). 3. Refer to Figure 11.1,” Questions to determin" rel="nofollow">ine the best expansion approach” to determin" rel="nofollow">ine which methods of expandin" rel="nofollow">ing defin" rel="nofollow">inition(s) you want to use to defin" rel="nofollow">ine your term. 4. Refer to page 217 and evaluate the strategies for defin" rel="nofollow">inition in" rel="nofollow">in relation to each of your terms; use the Checklist for Defin" rel="nofollow">initions on page 218 also. 5. Defin" rel="nofollow">ine each of your five to 10 terms startin" rel="nofollow">ing with a sentence defin" rel="nofollow">inition. Expand each term usin" rel="nofollow">ing at least two types of expandin" rel="nofollow">ing defin" rel="nofollow">inition types. You may combin" rel="nofollow">ine the various types of defin" rel="nofollow">initions (as shown in" rel="nofollow">in the examples in" rel="nofollow">in your text) and you may use as many types as you feel are necessary to defin" rel="nofollow">ine your term. You may use the 14 types multiple times. The only requirement is that you use each type of the 14 expansion methods at least once in" rel="nofollow">in this project.
