Demonstrate all of your acquired working knowledge on the subjects related to this course. Please choose one of the following options. Regardless of option, please keep in mind and include: - Description of anthropology’s distinct way of studying health and healing practices (hint: culture). Look back through the slides and readings from the beginning of class. - Utilize at least 5 key concepts from class (pluralism, disease identity, etc). - Draw from 5 sources – these can include any and all of our texts, articles, etc from class. Reputable outside sources are also ok. News and media can be included but do not count toward the 5. The library databases are a great source for articles! - You are not doing a traditional research paper in the sense that you are looking for your own findings, but rather it is discussion-based. 1st person is acceptable voice. - Full points are awarded for showing the specific connections between health and cultural factors. - Structure and formatting should be a formal essay with introduction, explanation and discussion, examples that illuminate your points and illustrate your key concepts, and conclusion that ties it all together. - 5 pages single spaced is maximum. With images and other formatting, it can go over. Double spacing is fine – just watch the word count (aim for 2,500 words). - Images must either be your own or the source cited. PROMP 1) Reflection of healing narrative – first-hand account. Uses analysis of experience. This is a firsthand account of experiences as a healer or a recipient of healing or medicine. Explain the medical encounters, materia medica, people/ structures involved, how social, political, economic, religious, etc factors played a role. This asks you to analyze youe experience through the lens of medical anthropology by looking at the overall and interconnected issues that contribute to health and healing.
