Diary Keeping

Keep a diary of 20 small problems or annoyances they encounter in their daily life over a week to 10 days. (This process will work best if you record
one or two problems daily rather than if you try to come up with them in one sitting). Family life, social life,
student life, hobbies, work life, COVID-life…it’s all fair game for your lists!
Example date:September 5 problem:My glasses fog up when wearing a mask.(start at oct 3 pls. 20
problems, just list it. don't have to make it eassy) 2. And make solutions for 3 of them. use the worst soution. •
The “worst possible solution” should be a product or service that could be sold to solve the problem – not a
simple action the sufferer could take. Here is example, Example problem:My glasses fog up when I wear a
mask solution:A small battery operated fan that clips on the nose bridge of my glasses frame to blow the fog
away
(note: this is a product that could be sold. Do not suggest a solution like “don’t wear glasses” or “rub glasses
with a cloth” – it must be an idea for a product or service that could be sold to customers. (alson just list it) 3. •
Choose two product solutions from Part 3.
• Provide 2-3 insights about the potential customer for both of them.
• Remember, the Empathy Map is about the customer – even if your solution is the “worst possible” one, put
yourself in the customers shoes and describe how they might approach any solution offered for the problem
they are experiencing.
Empathy Map Example
Product (Solution): Battery Operated De-Fogger for Glasses
(1)say: Will it fit all my frames? How long does the battery last?
How long does it take to defog? (2)thinks It will make me look ridiculous. Will it fall off and break? Is this for real
or a joke? (3) Does Reads online reviews of all possible solutions. Consults eye care professional to find out if
it will damage lenses/frames (4) feels I feel very afraid I’ll trip when I can’t see with foggy glasses I feel
embarrassed when I’m unable to move because I can’t see.
