Discussion

Please complete three discussions. Each discussion write over 75 words. ( This course is about United States history)

Discussion one: (A Turbulent Decade: The Twenties) The "Turbulent Decade" of the 1920s was notable for its profound societal upheaval. Drawing from the examples in Chapter 21, identify and discuss one important social or economic development. ( uploaded on files )

Discussion two: (A New Deal for America: The Great Depression) Analyze one or more of the causes contributing to the Great Depression.

Discussion three: (World War II: Fighting the Good War) Americans prided themselves on "fighting the good fight" during World War II, and in light of the atrocities committed by the Germans and Japanese, it is not surprising that Americans were supremely confident in the moral rectitude of their efforts to defeat the forces of expansionism, tyranny, oppression, and even genocide. However, America was confronted with a number of tough ethical dilemmas and employed expedients that have generated great controversy among historians. Comment on one of the topics below. It is not enough to merely observe that the U.S. was right or wrong, justified or unjustified. Analyze the reasons or rationale that informed these policies or decisions, and then assess whether they were morally justified or defensible.

-The racist depiction of the Japanese enemy in the media and government propaganda

-The relocation of Japanese Americans to internment camps

-The segregation of African-American soldiers from their white counterparts

-The firebombing of civilian populations in German and Japanese cities

-The relative failure of the U.S. to welcome Jews fleeing the Holocaust or to destroy concentration camps years earlier

-The dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
