Select a case in American history that has produced change within society and/or law enforcement as it relates to race and cultural issues. There are many issues to chose from. For example, you may wish to select a controversial case such as the Michael Brown case in Ferguson, Missouri or a police program such as those highlighted in some of the videos in the course dealing with law enforcement approaches to mental illness or gangs. You may wish to consult the textbook for subject ideas as well. Finally, if you are having difficulty in selecting a topic, do not hesitate to reach out to your instructor for additional guidance. Once you have selected a topic, discuss the issue at hand, the impact it had at the time and the change, or potential change, that it produced or may produce for the future. Your paper needs to be 6-8 pages in length and your paper should include at least three sources other than the textbook. Your paper needs to be written in APA format which means 10-12 font, double spaced, include a title, abstract and reference page. These pages can be part of your total page count. The OWL Purdue weblink will assist you in having a general overview of what APA papers should look like in case you have never had to write a formal paper or you would like a reminder. See the rubric in Course Information.
