Case Studies:
In chapter five of the GMMP 2015 report, the document examines case studies of
various countries’ media representation from around the world. Please select THREE of
these cases which you believe will have different media representation of women to
answer question five. However, you may also use this information to contribute to your
answer for question four and should likely have several annotations from this section of
the report-
Questions:
In order to complete this assignment, you need to answer the following questions.
Please do not put the actual questions into the document, but rather use headings to
break the paper into sections if you so choose to use that formatting method. The
questions you need to answer are:
1) Where did these documents come from? Are these reliable sources? Why or why
not?
1) Where did these documents come from? Are these reliable sources? Why or why
not?
2) Explain why you chose to classify each document as either primary or secondary-
3) Comment on the authenticity, credibility and representativeness of the documents.
Are these ‘good’ murm? How so? Why or why not? How are the two online articles
from Genderlt and LiveMint different in terms of their coverage of the GMMP 2015
report?
4) Reflect on the totality of your annotations around all four documents- What are your
main observations about women in media according to the Global Media Monitoring
Project 2015 report? How are your annotations helping you answer the overarching
question in the assignment: How does global media portray gender in their news
coverage?
5) Focusing on 3 countries of your choosing covered in the report and data tables (can
be outside of Europe), can you speak to differences and similarities that exist between
these countries? What did you learn about each of them? How are they
different/similar? Can you develop further hypothesis as to why they are
different/similar?
