There are a lot of tornado chasers, and national news channels gives them a lot of money if for good footage. I know a guy in Texas that makes enough money to support his family by chasing tornadoes and selling the footage. Besides chasing tornadoes to sell footage of it, some local television stations go live to tornado chasers to show viewers a tornado's exact location during a tornado warning. Therefore, it confirms there is a tornado and gives more seriousness to the meteorologist's warning for communities in its path. I say confirms for a reason--unless a tornado has been seen by a National Weather Service or Emergency Management spotter, it's Doppler-indicated. Doppler indicated tornadoes don't always make it to the ground to actually form a tornado.
