For this assignment, read the following scenario:
You are the HR Lead at a large forestry company with operations in four provinces across Canada. Your workforce has been constant over the last 10 years and as such, your employee team feels relatively high job security, is well adjusted, and works hard. In fact, many of your company's 1,500 workers have been with the organization for more than 30 years and recently nearly 10% of the company workforce announced their intention to retire. This comes as no big surprise to your HRM team as you have been planning for this with your CEO for several years as a means of avoiding downsizing and layoffs through the amalgamation of some administrative functions.
The employee group on the other hand is expecting large hiring sprees in their communities that never materialize. Instead, your company announces plans to reduce its workforce by 100 employees through attrition, with centralized administrative functions such as payroll and accounting moving to head office. Employees are shocked and angry, feeling betrayed.
