The questions below are intended to give you an opportunity to relate the Unit 8 material to your own personal
view and/or work experiences regarding the topic of labor relations in other countries.
You should attempt to answer the questions below, after you have viewed the Unit 8 Attend link and read
chapter 14 from the Unit 8 Read assignment in the second course e-book, The Labor Relations Process
(Holley, Jennings & Wolters, 2012).
You also advised to read any relevant articles that can be found in the Course Materials link as well as do
some research on the topic using the OCLS and the Internet.

  1. (a) In European countries, non-union worker participation systems such as works councils are more
    common than in the United States and other countries.
    Explain why these worker participation systems have developed so fully in certain European countries instead
    of elsewhere.
    (This discussion is not about unions. It is about other ways that workers participate in decisions that affect them
    irrespective of whether they are unionized or not. You must first understand what “work councils” are to be able
    to effectively participate in this discussion.)
    (b) How are labor relations in other countries different from those in the USA (besides the use of works
    councils that you have discussed in part (a)?
