classroom discussions; and at least one academic secondary source (found
through your own research), develop and support a thesis that addresses the
following question: Which philosopher's claims—Socrates's or
Aristotle's—about poetry are the most convincing? Why? In your response,
you should discuss Aristotle's analysis of Greek tragedy and Sophocles's
Oedipus Rex in particular as well as Socrates's claims about Greek poetry
and Homer in particular. You should also analyze at least one passage from
Sophocles's play, Oedipus Rex.

two tragic plays: Sophocles's Oedipus Rex and Shakespeare's Hamlet. In the
essay, you should also analyze passages from the plays: at least one from
Oedipus Rex and at least one from Hamlet.
