Describe where the study will take place, i. e., institution, geographical location, population, etc. For example, if your study setting is a unit in the hospital, you would briefly describe the institution, patient population, acuity level, and so on. No more than a paragraph or 2 at the most is required for this section. Avoid use of proper names when discussing setting. Research Design Specifically define the design you plan to use. Be sure to cite your research textbook as you describe the research design (experimental, quasi-experimental, descriptive, correlational, qualitative, and so on) that you select. What is your rationale for selecting this design? A paragraph should be sufficient. If your proposed study is experimental or quasi-experimental, you may prefer to describe the independent variable (intervention) in this section. Sample and Sampling Procedure Describe what kind of sample will be obtained, i.e., random, convenience, etc. Also, discuss your procedure for obtaining subjects: how you plan to access subjects, the projected number of subjects, and the demographic characteristics of subjects, such as age, sex, socioeconomic status, and so on. Inclusion/exclusion criteria refer to what criteria subjects must meet in order to be considered for inclusion in, or exclusion from, your study. You determine the inclusion/exclusion criteria. Ethics/Institutional Review Board Address any potential ethical issues that could exist with your study. Discuss what measures will be taken to insure the participants’ rights and privacy are protected. What are the potential risks the participants will be subject to versus the benefits they might receive? This assignment is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Module/Week 5.

2.The Twenty First Century

Make an argument about African American literature in the 21st century. This should be a synthesizing paper: it should incorporate examples from all periods studied. These examples should be incorporated into an argument about what African American literature is or should be. You should support all points you make with supporting evidence, and you must include examples from at least three primary texts.
