Feminist Scholars have struggled with the politics of counting and enumeration in multiple ways: invisibility (absent in the data), mis definition (appearing with inappropriate measures that fail to capture the core issues), hyper visibility (over-represented in the data). This politics of enumeration is not easy to correct, as it reflects and exacerbates the politics of numbers: Numbers make one notice things in particular ways, and as our readings show, there is a history to and consequence of the usage of numbers in our society.
PROMPT: Drawing in the readings, write a 500-750 words essay (the count is for the actual essay text -- not including name, title, etc., and not including any notes or references) discussing the politics of numbers. Make sure your essay draws on readings from both week 1 and week 2 of the quarter, and that it takes up at least three different aspects of the politics of numbers ("Noticing Numbers" gives a nice example of the ways you can do this, but you are by no means limited to the items highlighted in that article). Provide examples to make your case. Your essay needs to have a title and proper references -- you may use any reference style you like as long as it is consistent.
*You are not necessary to use three sources, but please use three examples from the readings*
