Sample Solution
The epidemiology of measles is characterized by a highly contagious infectious disease caused by the Measles virus (rubeola). The disease is spread through contact with an infected person’s respiratory droplets or saliva. With an incubation period of up to three weeks, a person may be contagious for several days before and after displaying symptoms. Once acquired, manifestations of measles can range from mild to severe, including fever, rash, cough, runny nose, red eyes and white spots inside the mouth. Complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis can occur in some cases; these complications are more likely in people who are very young and/or have weakened immune systems.
