Order Description
The task:
Read and consider the arguments put forward by Michael Walzer and Peter and Renata Sin" rel="nofollow">inger in" rel="nofollow">in the readin" rel="nofollow">ings set for Week 4. Note that there are two sections of the
Walzer readin" rel="nofollow">ing.
The task has three steps.
1. First, in" rel="nofollow">in a paragraph each, summarise the key arguments presented by Walzer and the Sin" rel="nofollow">ingers in" rel="nofollow">in the selected readin" rel="nofollow">ings.
2. Second, consider and discuss the ethical implications for each position.
In this part of your answer, you might want to consider the followin" rel="nofollow">ing questions:
• Which social group do the authors privilege in" rel="nofollow">in their ethical arguments?
• What would be the real-world implications for citizens? For non-citizens?
• What special allowances, if any, do the authors make for non-citizens in" rel="nofollow">in need?
• Can you see evidence of one position (Walzer’s, or the Sin" rel="nofollow">ingers’) in" rel="nofollow">in Australian asylum policy?
3. Third, provide a reference list, usin" rel="nofollow">ing the Harvard style of referencin" rel="nofollow">ing. As this task is a close examin" rel="nofollow">ination of the set readin" rel="nofollow">ings, your reference list should only
in" rel="nofollow">include two references (the chapters by Walzer and the Sin" rel="nofollow">ingers), or maybe three (if you decide to refer to the Gibney chapter as well).
Tip: It is strongly recommended that you read the readin" rel="nofollow">ing by Matthew Gibney in" rel="nofollow">in your preparation for this task. The Gibney readin" rel="nofollow">ing will help you understand Walzer and
the Sin" rel="nofollow">ingers' ethical positions, and put them in" rel="nofollow">in context within" rel="nofollow">in broader debates. It will also assist you to answer the questions relatin" rel="nofollow">ing to the ethical implications of
these positions. You may refer to this readin" rel="nofollow">ing in" rel="nofollow">in the body of your text if you fin" rel="nofollow">ind it useful to do so. No further reference material is required.
