Ethics

Rules or codes of professional ethics serve as a guide to professional conduct. In this assignment you will
analyze and apply either the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES)
(Engineers) or the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) (Undergrad Construction
Managers) codes. You will be graded on the depth of your analysis and reasoning, how you support your
conclusions, and the professional appearance of your essays. The ethical rules/code and case studies are

on Canvas in the “Ethics” module.

  1. Read the applicable NCEES Model Rules of Professional Conduct (Engineers) or CMAA Code of Ethics
(Construction Managers). Write a short essay (250 words) summarizing the rules or code in your own

words. Your essay should include an introduction, a paragraph for each of the major professional

obligations, and a conclusion.

  1. Read your assigned case study. Write a 500 word essay briefly summaring the case study and applying

the NCEES Model Rules (Engineers) or CMAA Code of Ethics (Construction Managers) to your case study.
Analyze the professional decisions in the case study and state your opinion as to how the individual in the

case should behave; what errors of ethical judgment were made and how the issues should they be

resolved or prevented. Four digit case studies refer to the National Institute of Engineering Ethics (NIEE)

case studies. One or two digit case studies refer to the American Institute of Constructors (AIC) case

studies. The NIEE case studies are each in a separate file. The AIC case studies are all in one file.
