Identify, based on your family history and current family arrangements: are the family rules/boundaries and what are they about? Who makes them? Which rules/boundaries are implicit and which are explicit? Which rules/boundaries worked well and which did not? What happened when someone in the household crossed a boundary? Are the rules rigid, flexible, laissez-faire or chaotic?

Identify, based on your family history and current family arrangements: what is the family’s communication styles? Describe any circular patterns of communication or behaviour. What rules are there about expressing emotion? Which emotions are acceptable to express and which are not?

Identify, based on your family history and current family arrangements: how are roles, responsibilities and power distributed within your family dynamics? Who has the most influence? How are decisions made about different areas [e.g. money, disciplining children, social life, enrichment, school responsibilities?

Part D

Identify, based on your family history and current family arrangements: describe the family’s boundaries both within and outside the family [e.g. with the community and within the family; what subsystems exist]. Are boundaries within the family and with the community open or closed? Are they clear or ambiguous? Reference to text, classroom discussion and other sources.
