Fiction and non fiction work

In an essay that analyzes either two works of nonfiction and one work of fiction, or one work of nonfiction and two works of fiction, discuss how your chosen nonfiction can or cannot be used to explain the relationship between the unreal/supernatural and the real in your chosen fiction. You should also think about how the works of the same type (non/fiction) approach the issue similarly or differently to each other. In other words: all of the nonfiction we’ve read have suggested how their unreal subject matter might be used to comment on or reflect real-world problems. Does that relationship in your chosen nonfiction translate onto your chosen fiction? In what ways does it, and in what ways does it not?

If you choose two nonfiction and one fiction, you might write an essay in which you look at what your nonfiction pieces do similarly or differently when each applied to the short story. If you choose one nonfiction and two fiction, you might see how your nonfiction author’s ideas apply differently to each story. While I would like you to consider putting the same-genre works together, this is primarily a case-frame essay: how can you utilize the nonfiction as a framework (or not) to understand the fiction as a case study.

Choose either one or two readings from these:
“Home Is Where the Horror Is” by Jason Zinoman
“Why Frankenstein’s Monster Haunts Queer Art” by Charlie Fox
“Zombies” by Zora Neale Hurston

If you chose one reading from above, choose two readings from these. If you chose two from above, choose one from these:
“The Husband Stitch” by Carmen Maria Machado
“Six Months, Three Days” by Charlie Jane Anders
“Someday We’ll Embrace This Distance” by Niyah Morris

Remember that you must write a full, argumentative essay that includes detailed analysis of specific textual evidence.
