As described in the above article (on pgs. 32-33, and Exhibit 2) there are five negotiation strategies one can use based on importance of both the outcome and
relationship (to the other party).
For your chosen Leader [Jack Ma], describe a real-world scenario where she/he used one of the above strategies to negotiate solutions to a difficult situation.
• Why do you think your leader choose this particular negotiation strategy?
• Did the strategy achieve the outcome the leader sought?
• How did the relationship between the leader and the other party remain post negotiation?
• If you were the leader in this situation, how would you have handled the situation differently? (Explain the negotiation strategy you would use; why you would use
it; what would be your expected outcome; how do you think your relationship with the other party would be post negotiation.)
