Gap analysis involves contrasting two points in time to explore the gap between them. Typically, an endpoint is envisioned and then the gap between where you are and where you want to be helps you visualize what needs to be done to get to the endpoint.
In this case, the endpoint is possessing your preferred leadership model. Currently, you may or may not have some components of that model in place.
Filling in the gap means defining a plan to bridge the divide between where you are and where you want to be at some point in the future.
For this activity, you will write down your current state with regard to your leadership model. To do this, you should consider your current leadership traits, which could be anything we’ve discussed throughout the term, and which leadership model you currently use the most. Or you may not use any of these models currently, and that’s okay.
Next, you will list your future state with regard to your leadership model. This is the preferred leadership model you would like to use at some point in the future. It could be one of the models, or a combination of the models.
Finally, in the “gap” section, you should list steps you will take to get from your current state to your future state. This can include areas you need to develop, training you might pursue, classes you need to take, social skills you’d need to develop, or anything else you’d have to do to get to your desired end state.
