Prècis: you will prepare a précis on their paper topic. A précis is basically a summary of the research you intend to use for your paper. However, in a précis you will represent the exact arguments and details of the longer, much more detailed research you’ve collected without using the same words. You will use your own words to describe the arguments contained in the research you’ve collected about your topic. You will identify main concepts from the research that have been developed to apprehend the problem you are writing about as well. Students should prepare the précis over 5-6 sources that are book chapters or articles from peer-reviewed journals. To use book chapters, identify a book that covers your topic. Inevitably every chapter in the book will not be relevant to your research so choose the chapters that are and summarize them separately. In a précis, you are trying to perfectly represent the argument of the piece in miniature, so by reducing the argument to a much smaller version of the original. This means you will have to choose the relevant parts of the article or book chapter to represent which means you will actually have to read it several times!
