Hand in a written research paper (not an essay), based on your oral presentation, in fulfillment of the writing requirement for distribution courses at Hofstra. You should research your topics carefully, compile facts and ideas, and derive some real information to transfer to your student colleagues. Personal experiences, observations, and/or opinions are not appropriate.
By including factual notes with your slides, as suggested above, you will easily be able to extract and edit your notes to produce a paper. Citations in the text and a list of references, including web site references, must be included in your paper as well as in your presentation. See the
following page for examples of proper reference formats.
Reference articles must be from peer-reviewed journals which are found in the journal section of the library, books, and/or professional websites found on the internet. Most professional journals are published by professional scientific societies. Ask the librarian to help you search for an article about geology. Use the topics in the text as a guide.
Format
The format of the paper is as follows:
- 5 typed pages using font Times New Roman 12, double spaced.
- 1-inch margins
- Title and Name on top of 1st page.
- Paper with references cited in the text (author last name, year of publication)
- Bibliographic References - List citations in alphabetical order in your bibliography
