Gilgamesh, Oedipus

Write a 3-4 page essay based on a careful reading of one of the major texts we have discussed this semester:
Gilgamesh, Oedipus, Candide (either version) Things Fall Apart or Daytripper. You may include a discussion of
any of the shorter works we went over, but your essay should not focus primarily on a piece we only touched
on for a few minutes in class.
I have some rather exact expectations for this essay, so please read the following carefully.
You should begin your essay by looking again at one or more of the poems we read recently: “Those Winter
Sundays” (Hayden); “This Be The Verse” (Larkin); “That Moment” (Olds); “Fear Poem” (Harjo).
Ask yourself, what is the main point of the poem you have chosen? Some possibilities:
Children sometimes don’t understand their parents.
I used to be afraid, but I’m not anymore.
It is fun to cuss in a poem.
Being a mother is different than what I thought it would be.
Somehow, we will survive, no matter what kind of hell we go through.
War is hell.
