Pick two: Hamlet, Richard III, Merchant of Venice, Othello
Write a paper using TWO of the plays assigned this summer. This means that you will choose one of the
options offered below and write a paper comparing or contrasting or both comparing and contrasting the two
plays you choose. Your paper should be a minimum of 7 full pages but no longer than 10 pages. This paper is
a theme based paper. That means that you will be focusing on what happens in the plays; I do not want you to
write a paper about Shakespeare's writing ( i.e., analysis of how Shakespeare writes). Your paper needs to
focus on the THEMES in the plays. Also, this is not a research paper, so I am suggesting that you do not
consult secondary sources. I am interested in YOUR investigation of the theme.
