Harmonising project methodologies at EuroMedisch
Harmonisin" rel="nofollow">ing project methodologies at EuroMedisch
Order Description
Project Scenario
MediCision is a specialist engin" rel="nofollow">ineerin" rel="nofollow">ing company, based in" rel="nofollow">in the UK, which designs and manufactures in" rel="nofollow">innovative medical equipment for hospitals and other public and private health-care providers across Europe. The company has seen considerable growth in" rel="nofollow">in recent years and currently has a broad customer base and a full order book for the next twelve months.
Followin" rel="nofollow">ing a recent take-over of MediCision, by EuroMedisch, Europe's market leeder, the EuroMedisch's Project Management Office (PMO) is lookin" rel="nofollow">ing to harmonise the way in" rel="nofollow">in which projects are managed across the new, larger organization to improve the proportion of projects that are delivered successfully and to improve resource usage and efficiency. Projects within" rel="nofollow">in EuroMedisch have been managed accordin" rel="nofollow">ing to Agile prin" rel="nofollow">inciples for a number of years, while projects at MediCision are managed on a “best-efforts” basis with no formal methodology bein" rel="nofollow">ing employed. By in" rel="nofollow">introducin" rel="nofollow">ing a common Project Management methodology across the company, the PMO hopes not only to improve the quality of project management, but also to promote the mobility of project staff across the organization. EuroMedisch’s senior management support this in" rel="nofollow">initiative, which they hope will help to reduce lead times for new product development and in" rel="nofollow">increase customer satisfaction and retention.
Your first task is to prepare a project in" rel="nofollow">initiation document (2000 words), drawin" rel="nofollow">ing on appropriate project management theory and frameworks, to present to the company’s board of directors for approval. The plan should consider the followin" rel="nofollow">ing aspects of the project:
? The project’s scope.
? An in" rel="nofollow">initial assessment of stakeholders and recommendations on how these stakeholders should be managed to maximise the chance of achievin" rel="nofollow">ing the project’s objectives.
? An in" rel="nofollow">initial assessment of risks and opportunities presented by the project and the response strategies proposed.
? An outlin" rel="nofollow">ine project plan (Gantt chart) showin" rel="nofollow">ing the main" rel="nofollow">in tasks and significant milestones, supported by a justification of your proposed approach. The Gantt chart needs to show a min" rel="nofollow">inimum of 10 tasks.
There is no need for you to prepare an outlin" rel="nofollow">ine busin" rel="nofollow">iness case and project budget, as this will be prepared by a colleague, based on the Gantt chart and budgetary estimates.
The design of your project in" rel="nofollow">initiation document should take in" rel="nofollow">into consideration both the soft and hard skills necessary to ensure the project’s success.
