Hip Fracture

Pt was 89 years old. She was admitted for hip fracture. she was diabetic. It was morning 10:30 AM breakfast time. As she was diabetic it is must to check blood glucose levels before the surgery. RN delegated this job to licensed nursing assisting person. I asked my nurse to go with her to see this skill. I went her, and she checked blood glucose it 64, this is very low.She ran to RN, meanwhile I was talking to the patient how she is feeling. As per my lecture class teachings whenever patient has low blood sugar levels, give them carbohydrates right away. RN came with sugar cookies pt ate cookies and feeling better. Meanwhile breakfast was there. But question was what should be done with insulin. RN made a call to Doctor and explained whole situation. Dr orders to hold the insulin, and take the glucose levels 30 minutes after the breakfast. Pt. ate her breakfast and checked her glucose after 30 minutes it was 100 and reported to the doctor. Again there was order to check glucose levels after one hour, it was 120. By that time doctor came and did whole assessment. 1.
