Research and analyze the social structure presented in Homer's The Odyssey.
Suggested questions: What role does each member of society bear? What role does the divine play in establishing and maintaining the Greek
culture? Who or what is the most significant element of society as presented in the work? Please use Guerin, W. L., et al. A Handbook of Critical
Approaches to Literature. Oxford UP, 2005, and other scholarly and/or peer-reviewed research.
Following the guidelines of the MLA Handbook and "Writing Format" below. Save essays with your last name first followed by the paper number
(Smith #2).
This analysis paper will be 3-5 pages in length, excluding the Works Cited page, and contain the students' position or thesis on the reading.
All essays should be written in Times New Roman 12 point plain font. Essays are double spaced, include indented paragraphs with no extra space
between paragraphs, and 1 inch margins on all (4) sides. Essays should be MLA formatted and submitted as MS Word attachments. Write in the third
person objective voice, and prove/illustrate points with quotes and paraphrases from primary and secondary sources, followed by the corresponding
in-text and Works Cited citation. Avoid the first person "I" subjective voice or second person point of view in graduate level scholarly writing.
