Your major essay will be an argumentative essay that addresses a concern, question, or issue in your
discourse community. It will be no less than 8 pages long (2000 - 3000) words, but may be longer. At least 5
of your 10 citations from your annotated bibliography, plus any new references will be included on your
Works Cited page. The paper will use MLA style for citations and works cited, and proper use of MLA will be
included in your grade. The paper will be formatted with Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced,
and the Works Cited page will also use a hanging indent and be sorted alphabetically. Your thesis must be
clearly stated (but no abstract is required), and I expect to see a good hook in the introduction and a call to
action in the conclusion. Follow the following Five-Part Arrangement:
Introduction
Statement of Facts (includes research, methods, statistics)
Confirmation (argument or proof of the case)
Refutation (opposing arguments)
Conclusion (this can be more than one paragraph - for example, prior to the final conclusion you should
address whether there are any limitations noted in any of the research)
