How to create an online activities portfolio
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to give our class the opportunity to create an online activities portfolio that you can use later on in your internships and/or professional careers. Through this assignment, students will practice how to implement a variety of Recreational Therapy facilitation techniques and interventions, explain intervention adaptations for different populations (disabilities), and demonstrate how to brief, lead, and debrief/process activities under different RT Facilitation Techniques
Procedure: Students will choose 2 of the 20 Facilitation Techniques for which they will provide 2 activities in a Google Sites online portfolio.
1. Name of Activity and citation source: Make sure you use APA format for the citation
2. Equipment needed: List/describe the equipment needed to conduct the activity (1 point)
3. Environment needed: Describe the environment needed to conduct the activity (indoors, outdoors, space, etc) (1 point)
4. Activity Description and Purpose: provide a general description of the activity and its purpose (1 point)
5. Activity Instructions: provide the step-by-step instructions on how to lead the activity from beginning to end. The idea here is for you to include instructions for one session of recreational therapy. Include details such as the number of participants, rules to participants, and anything else someone unfamiliar with the activity will need to lead the activity (1 point)
6. Therapeutic benefits: describe potential therapeutic benefits of the activity (1 point)
7. Leadership Considerations: include information on how to brief, lead and debrief/process the activity. Also, you need to include type of leadership, proximity of facilitator to participants, safety considerations, precautions, special rules, number of participants, rule for participants, and discussion questions. (1 point)
8. Adaptations for 4 different disabilities: describe evidence-based activity adaptations for 4 different disabilities (e.g: Autism, Spinal Cord Injury, Dementia, and Substance Abuse Disorder). DO SOME RESEARCH ON ADAPTATIONS! I will look for adaptations that demonstrate research efforts (you have to cite literature/research). Don’t come up with the ideas on your own. You can do research on the internet, books, professional journals, or speak to recreational therapists in the field. (4 points)
Be thorough and creative when explaining your activities. The idea is for the reader/viewer to be able to lead the activity by following your instructions. You can use text, images, video, or anything that will help you convey your message.
