A critique is a careful analysis of an argument to determine what is said, how well the points are made, what assumptions underlie the argument, what issues are overlooked, and what implications are drawn from such observations. It is a systematic, yet personal response and evaluation of what you read. A reading critique paper is generally a piece of work that critiques and analyzes a piece or many pieces of writing on a theme.
Reading critiques should be 5 pages long, double-spaced and referenced (justified alignment). They should summarize the key arguments of the readings, contrast the perspectives of the readings, and respond to the readings within the context of the course.
Your reading critique paper has two missions:
I.To summarize an author’s or authors’ main ideas and
II.To respond to their main ideas with reactions based on your synthesis and arguments, using some examples to back your arguments.
