The art talk is not a formal speech, but rather a more casual, yet informed, overview of a piece of art you appreciate. Choose a text mentioned in chapters 12 or 13 to discuss and perform interpretive criticism. See chapters 12 and 13 for a review of the critical terms to use when discussing film, television and video art. Record a presentation using PowerPoint or other presentation software that includes 1) an introduction to yourself and your selection--why did you select this piece, 2) a little information about who created the art, 3) a descriptive discussion of filmic (all the arts read about this
week use film) qualities of the text (how is the lens used?, the cutting?, the color?, music?, construction of narrative?), 4) information about the reception of the text—how is it alike or distinctive from other texts?, 5) and a short evaluative criticism of the text. Total discussion time should be between 4 and 6 minutes.
