So far this semester we have mainly focused on contemporary concerns, learning that Indigenous Peoples have retained social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. It is important for us to also explore traditional lifeways and consider the history of the first known groups to inhabit an area.
For this week you will select an indigenous group and present a brief historical sketch. Choose an indigenous culture of interest in any place in the world. Your research may take on any depth of historical interest, whether the ancient past, a colonial period or a more recent point on the timeline. If you cannot
think of a group, there are websites that maintain lists of indigenous groups or you can simply begin your
search with "indigenous people of _ ."
